History of Instagram on Android

Instagram is a highly popular picture sharing application for Android phones, through which users take photos and then share them on various social networking websites like, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc. including Instagrams own, after the check of a digital filter. Instagram was launched in Apples Store on October 6, 2010 by the co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger as a freeware. Just after its launch, the application showed a massive rise in the amount of users, calculated to be one million by December 2010, which was amazingly just two months after its introduction in the market. Moreover, by August 2011 the amount of registered users of instagram had rapidly reached to one hundred and fifty million in the matter of an year.

The main feature of Instagram which has resulted in its massive popularity is the Hash tags feature, which was introduced in January 2011 as an addition to Instagram to provide vast opportunity for the users in discovering photos as well as each other over the internet. Through this feature, photos can be hyper linked to incoming photos falling under that same hash tag over websites which support this feature such as, Google+, Orkut, Tumblr, Twitter, Youtube, etc.

A particular hash tag, if acquires a high popularity, becomes a trend and therefore turns out to be as a great attraction for several users taking interest in taking and uploading pictures which fall in the same hash tag category to be highly targeted, checked and appreciated by other people around the world having similar interests. Therefore adding tags to your Instagram photos is a great way to find new followers and share your photos with more people.

Another feature of Android Instagram is the editor of photos which includes quick tilt shifts, borders, brightness/contrast, instant rotation, etc. This feature is highly demanded addition to photo applications such as Instagram, as people who upload pictures over the internet prefer editing their photos to achieve various attractive and desired looks before presenting them in front of their social groups, family, friends and even public! In 2011, during its yearly retrospective of iTunes-store, the famous IT company Apple announced Instagram its definitive application of the year, claiming that the photo filter feature makes it nearly-impossible to take a bad shot. Flip board was Apples app of the year in 2010 which was replaced by Instagram in 2011. Android Instagram has also won many awards such as: Best Mobile App runner-up at TechCrunch Crunchies 2010 and Best Locally Made App in the SF Weekly Web Awards September 2011, etc.

The CEO Kevin Systrom stood on the 66th position in the The 100 Most Creative People in Business in 2011, listed by the Fast Company in June 2011. As this freeware continues to gain fame, today the Android Instagram community has reached over 10 million users and the number is gradually increasing. No doubt, Instagram application has turned out to be one of the huge successes of the Apple Company.
